We spent an awesome vegetarian Thanksgiving with Reema and Frank in San Francisco. They were awesome hosts (thanks for the spare room Frank!) and we loved walking around the neighborhood, a short walk in any direction offered a fantastic selection of coffee shops, restaurants and markets.
We spent some time seeing some sights we didn't get to see last time we were in San Francisco. We went to Berkeley and visited the University campus, didn't take any pics, but it was cool and we enjoyed just walking around.
We drove over the Golden Gate Bridge...
View of San Francisco Bay from the Golden Gate National Recreation Area...

...and of course Spunky wanted a picture in front of the Golden Gate Bridge too
We went into Chinatown one afternoon for some Dim Sum. Still on an adventurous streak, Nick decided to try the chicken feet...

yes, that's a pigeon in the restaurant...possibly looking for his buddy's feet...
After brunch, we walked around Chinatown and got lured into a tea tasting...this guy was quite a character...
The tea guy looks mean in this picture but he really wasn't, he was very lively and funny, a little odd, but that just added to the fun of the experience.
After tasting many different teas (Nick doesn't even like tea) we walked around Chinatown again and happened upon an alley that had paver stones with authors names and literary quotes. So we followed it...
It led us to the City Lights Bookstore..."a landmark independent bookstore and publisher that specializes in world literature, the arts, and progressive politics" (www.citylights.com)
Founded in 1953 by poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Peter D. Martin, City Lights is one of the few truly great independent bookstores in the United States, a place where booklovers from across the country and around the world come to browse, read, and just soak in the ambiance of alternative culture's only "Literary Landmark." Although it has been more than fifty years since tour buses with passengers eager to sight "beatniks" began pulling up in front of City Lights, the Beats' legacy of anti-authoritarian politics and insurgent thinking continues to be a strong influence in the store, most evident in the selection of titles.
We browsed around City Lights for a little while before heading home, probably to eat some more...
You are a hoot! I miss you! You guys look great...love the glasses, Nick. Are those new? You look so urban! I know there must be a story behind the acquisition of Spunky.....he looks adorable and, of course, something that I would love and make human!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get this. I know it's a bit late to post...hope you still check this.
