Of course, that was the plan for the next day and being fairly certain that we weren't going to miss it...its not named "Old Fairly Reliable"...we stopped to see some more cool geysers and cool geological stuff on the way.
The day started with more animals (we're suckers for seeing cars pulled over by the side of the road and stopping to see what they're looking at)
It was so fascinating walking through the different parts of the park, and seeing all this crazy geological activity taking place right in front of you. The ground was literally bubbling, and steaming, and gurgling with strange smells and noises. It was like something out of a horror movie.
My personal favorite, the Fountain Paint Pot:
Some areas looked like a total wasteland, with conditions not able to support life as we know it.
Check out the bubbles around the edge, it looked and sounded (but did not smell) like a hot tub!
Looks kinda cool and spooky at the same time, with the steam rising off these fantastic bubbling pools of turquoise blue (sulfuric pools that smell like rotten eggs!)
Even from a great distance, you could see the steam and glowing turquoise blue from the larger pools. I am using super zoom for this picture, so I'm pretty far away...look at the people to the right of the pool for a size perspective.
we finally made it...
and at 2:44p.m. we were rewarded with a show...
Due to the mountain ranges and different elevations in Yellowstone, we ended up crossing the Continental Divide three times.
By the second Divide marker...Spunky had made friends with a group of bikers who were traveling the same route and stopping at all the same places we were. See, there he is in the middle with his biker buddies:
hmmm, Carla seems a little out of place...?
Sari, second attempt at posting this.
ReplyDeleteWe lost the first, as usual. I am truly cursed. Kate and I are following your progress. Can't wait to see you!!!!
Hey Sari. This is Rick.
ReplyDeleteYou know what you get when you throw a grenade into kitchen in France?
Linoleum blownapart!
I have a camera in your car and see you laughing, so don't deny it.
You know what the dog said when he limped into the bar?
"I'm looking for the man who shot my paw!" (say it out loud).
Glad to have you back here. Florida's changed - it's a cool 60 degrees during the day this July, and all the mosquitos are gone.
Just kidding
