We drove to our room at the Delta Cotton Company Apartments, located above Morgan Freeman's Ground Zero Blues Club® http://www.groundzerobluesclub.com/home.php in what was once a cotton-grading warehouse. (Up until the mid-20th century sellers to the company submitted cotton samples, and the fibers were then graded visually against a skylight by the keen eyes of some of Mississippi’s most talented cotton experts. A value description was then assigned based on the quality of the cotton).
Our room was beautiful! The apartments were huge and very tastefully decorated.
The apartments are litterally right above the club, so we could hear the live music playing in the club below...loud and clear! (All the windows on the 2nd floor were our apartment)
You would never know how nice the apartments were from the outside of the building. And quite frankly, if we didn't know we were going to a well known Blues Club owned in part by someone famous, and our trusty GPS pointing the way...we probably wouldn't have stuck around the neighborhood it was in. Old downtown Clarksdale isn't exactly rebuilt and modern. Most of the buildings were old abandoned warehouses and looked like they were about to fall down, or empty lots. The view from our window was a train depot.
We had dinner and listened to some great Blues music, then finished listening to the rest of the set from our bedroom! We were so tired, we crashed fairly early...basically soon after the band finished playing!
The next morning, we walked accross the street to the Delta Amusement Cafe to get a chili cheeseburger, as per our buddy Kent's orders.
.
Then it was time to visit the Crossroads...the intersection of Rte 61 & Rte 49. No, that's not Robert Johnson you see...that's Nick!!!
We drove out of Clarksdale,
past the cotton fields,
Next Stop...Memphis, TN
Great pics!
